Ara Damansara, Selangor – 21 August 2026 – BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, hosted the One Charge Challenge, a media drive designed put the official range figures of the 2026 BYD SEALION 7 Premium and 2026 BYD ATTO 3 Premium to the test. The event put the vehicles through a 509km round trip between Kuala Lumpur and Gambang, Kuantan, completed without a single intermediate charging stop.
The convoy departed from BYD Ara Damansara Showroom and travelled 257km to Mangala Estate Boutique Resort in Gambang via Mentakab. It then returned to Ara Damansara over a 252km route via Awana Genting Highlands. Across city roads, B-roads, highways and elevation changes, average speeds ranged from approximately 65km/h to 100km/h. Air-conditioning remained in use throughout, reflecting practical driving comfort rather than extreme range-saving measures.
The Genting Highlands stretch highlighted BYD’s regenerative braking, where energy is recaptured during downhill driving and returned to the battery. When the vehicle slows down or travels downhill, regenerative braking captures energy that would otherwise be lost and returns it to the battery. This helps drivers make better use of every charge while reducing reliance on conventional friction braking in suitable conditions.
Under these conditions, the winning 2026 BYD SEALION 7 Premium completed the 509km journey with 31% battery remaining. Based on the remaining battery level, this indicating a projected single-charge range of up to 698km surpassing its official 650km NEDC-rated range by 48km. Meanwhile, the winning 2026 BYD ATTO 3 Premium completed the same journey with 17% remaining, indicating a projected single-charge range of up to 602km exceeding its official 600km NEDC-rated range by 2km. Both projections are based on energy use recorded during the challenge.
Across all participating vehicles, the average battery level remaining after the 509km drive was 21%, while average energy consumption was 14.8 kWh per 100km. Together, these measured results demonstrate the efficiency of BYD’s Blade Battery technology, with the vehicles completing more than 500km of driving during the challenge under steady, everyday driving and planned route conditions. Actual energy use and range will vary with factors such as speed, traffic, terrain, weather, vehicle load and driving style.
Adeline Lew, Managing Director of BYD Sime Motors, said: “The One Charge Challenge was created to put our range figures to the test beyond the specification sheet. By completing 509km without an intermediate charging stop demonstrated the efficiency potential of the enhanced 2026 BYD SEALION 7 and 2026 BYD ATTO 3 across a mix of Malaysian roads. The journey reflected practical driving patterns — with achievable speeds and air-conditioning in use — showing that drivers can travel efficiently without compromising comfort. While actual range will vary depending on driving style, traffic, terrain, weather, vehicle load and the use of in-car features, these results provide valuable context for both daily commutes and longer intercity journeys. Long-distance electric mobility is not the future — it is already a reality today. Most importantly, it reflects Sime Motors’ long-term commitment to the Malaysian market, where we continue to ensure customers enjoy greater confidence and convenience in their electric mobility ownership journey.”.
The One Charge Challenge was more than a test of distance. It demonstrated what the range figures mean when translated from a specification sheet to an actual journey. With both models completing 509km without an intermediate charging stop and retaining battery capacity at the end of the drive, the results offer a practical perspective on the capabilities of BYD cars for longer journeys.
It was a practical validation that BYD cars fit seamlessly into Malaysian lifestyles. From highway cruising to city traffic and mountain routes, this media drive event showed that BYD’s Blade Battery technology can deliver confidence, convenience, and capability — all under achievable driving conditions, without requiring drivers to compromise comfort or adopt extreme efficiency habits.
